2nd row vent control question

I just purchased a used '01 Expedition XLT with a load of options and no owners manual to go with them. If anyone could help answer the few questions below it would be appreciated:

1. The 2nd row vent controls (Poor picture of them here) don't seem to work. Is there a trick to controlling this?

2. What does "single" and "dual" mean on the stereo? There's a button on the middle control console (Bottom left button) that switches between this, but I don't see a real difference....

3. There appears to be a compressor/heater thing in the back third seat area, on the drivers side - does this mean the AC for the rear is a separate system? (I know some Suburbans had this option, but I know -squat- about Ford's line of vehicles)

4. The Ford link for PDF owners manuals isn't working. Does anyone have an 01 Owners manual in PDF laying around?

5. What does the "RDS" button on the stereo do?

Thanks in advance for any assistance on these. I did a search through the archives but didn't find anything that answered these questions (although I did learn how to program the keypad entry system on the drivers door from here - thanks!)

For the rear heating controls to work, you have to set the the front one in the overhead console to "Rear". Then the passengers in the back can select their own settings for those vents. Alternatively, you can control the rear vents from the "front control" also...

The thing over the rear wheel-well is just a heating coil as far as I know. Heat or A/C comes out of there if you select "Floor" on the Aux. controls. I believe the origin of the heat and A/C all come from the front through ducts.

The RDS feature on your stereo allows your audio system to receive station id or program type id from RDS-equipped radio stations. I have just set mine to "Show", and then used the SEL button to NAME. All but one station in my city uses RDS, and it looks pretty cool to see the Station Name (ie JACK FM) displayed below the frequency.

BTW, I see owners manuals on eBay all the time... Might be a cheap place to get one.

When I bought my '00 Expy last December, I didn't read the manual until after Christmas, and discovered a whole slew of features that weren't obvious by just driving the vehicle.

I am pretty sure that the rear uses a heat exchanger much like the front does. You are right that there is only one compressor to run front and back however I am pretty sure that there is coolant lines to that exchanger.

Yeah, that's what I meant to say. There is a heater core that is fed by coolant lines from the engine.

Have you tried to download the manual from Ford's website? I just got an '04 and I was able to download it. It's only about 3.1mb in size.

Try here:

MyFord Web Site

Registration is free, and once there look on the left menu for "Resources and References". The Owner's Guide is in there. I think anyone can register.

Regards,

John

Thanks for the responses, folks. I was able to talk to Ford's customer service today and they transferred the VIN over to my account - that was the problem over the weekend preventing me from being able to access the manuals and other aspects of the site.

Ferroequine - your response was right on target, allowing me to stumble my way through that without any further problems (setting the rear vent controls so they worked).

I was able to figure out from the manual how to work the different aspects of the radio controls, and am now good to go on everything I asked originally.

Now, for a followup question: When I purchased it, the Expedition had this brush guard on the front: Picture Here

I want to get matcing ones on the rear taillights, but can't seem to find any information about who the manufacturer is, and I can't find any similar ones on the websites I've been to. Has anyone seen this brush guard before, and know where I can find other products made by the same manufacturer?

Thanks!
