A/C vent temperatures

I have a new 2004 XLT and the other day the outside temperature got up to near 80 degrees. My air conditioner did not cool too well. I tested the vent temperature and it read 45 to 47 degrees. I used the same temperature gauge in two other cars and they got the vent temperature down to 36 to 38 degrees on the same day. Is this just typical of this A/C unit not to cool as well as others? Could someone on this forum take a vent reading on their Expedition and tell me what the temperature reads? Please list outside temperature as well. Thanks a million!

My 99 runs about 40 to 41 degrees with the outside temps in the 90's, as long as its fully charged. You may be slightly short on freon. Mine is really sensitive to even less than half a pound low, the cooling performance degradation is really noticable. I unfortunately have a slow, slow leak, needs to be recharged every 15 months or so, so I can readly see the performance change. So far no one has been able to find the leak, even with dye in the system!
