"Chirp" at startup

For some time now my 97 EB w/75k has a low pitch "chirp" right at startup. Used to happen only when cold but now more often. Anyone else had this strange noise?

My 97 4.6 pick-up did it too. I wondered about it sometimes, but it never really bothered me.

97 and 98 starters made a lot of noises like you are describing. In 99 they changed the style of them and it pretty much fixed it.

Have your alternator checked, I have a 04 F150 and mine was doing the same thing, changed the alternator and it fixed it.
