electric compass problems

Anyone had problems with their electric compass's?? Mine still seems to work (still changes as you change directions), but is terribly incorrect. I have tried the reset procedures as explained in the owner's manual, but no go.... I'll be headed west, and it will say that I'm headed South!!

You can retry calibrating it but if it started doing it all of a sudden the module attached to the back of the rear view mirror is probably shot.

That's what happened to mine. It's easy to change by yourself. It clips onto the mirror and uses a modular phone jack type connector. i don't know the cost since mine was under warranty when it happened.

There was a rash of these a couple/few years ago. The module was out of stock and on back-order.

Hope this helps---Bob

LOL First the 4x4 issue, now this. That's two issues we have in common with our trucks.

Mine is accurate except when I head North. When I go North it reads SE or SW! Strange!

You have anything near the compass area or mirror (radar detector / jammer / GPS / etc.)?
Depending on the unit, some of them can mess up the compass.

Your other option is to drive the truck backwards everywhere, then the truck might technically be headed in the right direction...

Good luck.

I recall my 99 had a similiar problem when it was about a year old. I'm recalling there was a sensor that was replaced, that was causing the compass to read 180 off. Since this was a warrantee fix, I can't help with what the cost may be.

By chance would you possibly you have an EZ pass transponder behind the mirror that COULD be interfering?
