Homelink visor - has anyone.......

Has anyone taken a homelink visor apart? I know this is a longshot but thought I would ask.

Reason I ask... I have a 02 XLT(no power to the visor). I have had a visor(been in my garage for over a year now) that I took out of my Lightning prior to selling that has Homelink/memo note feature. The Lightning visor is too long for my Screw along with the fact that again my Screw has no power to the sun visor. My GOAL is to take the homelink module(I don't even know it is a module or not) out of the visor and put it in the headliner or mount it on the side of the console or something.

I really hate to destroy this visor if it will not work because the visor is practically new and cost over $300 from Ford. I have never really tried to sell it but feel sure I could sell it for $125-175 if I tried. Any opinions are appreciated. Also anyone that would like to cut thier visor open and send me pictures would be great

it worked in my nissan pathfinder.
took it out of the pathfinder and added it to the altima.
i had to take the mirror too (i hope you took the old wiring lead from the lightning.)
used my wife's "seam ripper" from her sewing stuff to pop the stitches in the seam on the left end and bottom edge.
had to enlarge the hole for the lighted mirror.
had to cut a hole for the homelink unit.
then had to carefully stitch it all back together with a upholstery needle (the ones that are curved).
took about 2 hours and a few bandaids.
if you decide to do it...BE CAREFUL to get the location level before you cut it.

why did you have to take the mirror? was this a Nissan visor you are speaking about? I want to take the Homelink unit out of the visor(homelink only,no mirror) and install it somewhere else in the truck. Thank you for your reply.

From what I could tell, the Homelink is an integral part of the visor, not a modular component.

But it shouldnt be too hard to run a tiny 12V wire to the headliner and discretely to the visor...

Anyone ever do this yet?

I have a homelink unit sitting here. I sell them and this is the first one I'm about to install. It comes with NO INSTRUCTIONS on how to put it in the visor.

Can anyone help?

I installed mine right above my left shoulder which works great for me when backing the truck in the garage or whatnot because it lets me use my left hand to hit the button while driving with my right hand. Bottom of this page
