Dog/pet barriers

Anyone have any experience with these things?

With a new baby on the way, we are looking for a way to keep the lab back in the rear of the vehicle. I read somewhere that the metal cages that go from floor to ceiling will wreck your headliner, and I priced the ones from Ford and the like that attach between the windows, the cheapest I have foudn is around 200 bucks, ouch.

Any advise?

With a little work you could electrify it.

I have one for my Border Collie that I found at a wholesaler like Costco ($39.95). See them in the car magazines for sale. Work good.

I have the cage variety that has a rubber top on it. I haven't had any problem with it wrecking the fabric. I think we paid ~$100 for it, but I'm sure you could find a cheaper one. Performance products I think carries the exact one I have. It's a pain in the butt to set up but it does a good job keeping the dogs in the back.

Have the black cage style w/ two floor posts that hold it against the headliner. Works fine. Leaves a groove in the headliner and 2 dents in the floor carpet when we take it out, but no real "damage" that wouldn't go away if we left it out I think. Has a main center piece and 2 side pieces that do rattle some but not a big deal.

Can't remember if we got it from Performance Products catalog or a pet catalog but it was <$100 for sure.
