Good question

Ok, this is not what my subject implies, but Expy means Expedition, or does it mean Explorer?

Anywho, I asked the Ford salesman this: Why didn't Ford make a big deal out of the new body styles for the Expedition/Explorer, unlike the new body style for the Trucks. He wasn't sure...

Also, what is the difference between the Expedition and the Explorer? I've never mastered that. lol.

Expy. means Expedition.

X means Excursion

A Explorer is just an explorer

A Explorer is small, a Expy. is large and a X is huge!

I think at first the explorers were built on the Ranger truck platform.

The Expeditions were built on the 97 F150 platform.

The Excursions were built on the current F250 E250 Platform.

Thanks. Why wasn't it a big deal though?

Good question!

I was looking to buy a used 02' expy. and ended up with a new 03'. I had no knowledge of the new improvements other than looks. Im SO SO happy we got he 03'!!! Not only does it look so much better, but the improvements (folding 3rd row, way more 3rd row room, independent rear, etc.) make it really nice.

Just got my Wife an 03 Expedition a few weeks ago. I knew about the new body and all the improvements, but you're right. They didn't make a big deal about it like they are the F-150. The only reason I can think of is that the F-150 sales will literally make or break Ford. It's their bread and butter.

It must depend on where you live. Down here in Houston, Ford advertised very heavily for the new Explorers and Expys, but this is the "truck" capital of the world too.
