Air suspension compressor blew out.
My wife called and said it sounded like a gun shot (I have no idea how she knows what a gun shot sounds like). I had her start the EX and the compressor was very loud. I opened the hood and I found the side of the plastic canister attached to the compressor had blown out. Their were all these plastic beads around it. I drove it (very slowly) on the bump stops to the dealership. I really don’t want to know how much this is going to kill me $ ...

New compressor so far, they have to do a final check today. Anyone have any idea why they put those beads in the unit? I am thinking because they look like the beads that come in those anti-moisture packets, they are pretty tasty btw
Isn't moisture a concern with regular air compressors?
Looking at an '03 EB today. Any options I should stay away from (beside the LLS)?

Me too! I can't imagine towing without the LLS. It's great and no problems here!!
Now that I'm looking at Excursion, it's probably going to fall apart. I parked right next to the one I drove today so the Expy saw me drive off in a new Excursion. Nothing yet, but I wonder if it's planning some way of getting even with me.

The compressor on my 01 Expy wore out its mounting bushings and started to make a loud noise and vibration. I have since replaced them with plastic washers that have silenced the noise to a low rumble and reduced the vibration. Nice eh?
For those of you do-it-yourselfers, access to the compressor requires removing the battery and battery box, removing the window washer reservoir on pushing it aside. You can then get access to the compressoer and change parts out. I wouldn't pay anyone to do the work since it's real simple.

The beads are dessicant - used to dry the air in the sytem.
When I first got my truck the Check Susp light would come on after 1/2 hr on the highway. After 5 or 6 tries, the dealer found that the right front shock air line was cross threaded.
The compressor used to run constantly (due to the leak). After the fix, it only runs occasionally but I wonder how much wear was put on the pump by all that running.....
