Rubbing Sound
Rubbing Sound
Hey all,
My wife has a 99 Expedition, EB 4x4, and lately when you're at a stop and take off, making a left or right hand turn, there is rubbing sound coming from the front. It just does it for a second or two and goes away. Its totally stock, stock tires, stock suspension.
I've checked under the chassis and there aren't any leaks, the cv boots aren't cracked. The tires are a couple of years old, and still have plenty of tread. Could the shocks be warn? They arent leaking??
Anybody have any clues??
Thanks,
Roland

The wheels don't have to be fully turned when it happens. You just have to take off from a full stop and make a right or left hand turn... Its almost like a vibration for a second or two, then it goes away.
I will definately look, but they were just replaced 10 months ago?? Could they wear down that fast??? Of course my wife drives it and shes pretty heavy on the gas and break....
Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the help!
Just an update...
While we were in a parking lot, I got out and let my wife do a turn so I could hear where the sound was coming from... Well, it was coming from the rear... not the front... that made me remember some axle work I had done and two words came to mind... "Friction Modifier". It seems that the Dealer forgot to put in FM when they replaced a leaking seal on the rear end.
I added some FM and the problem went away.
