2003 trade

that's to be expected on any 1 year old trade. I took a bigger hit percentage wise on my wife's 03 volvo s80. plus now with all the financing and rebates going on work agaisnt you as well.

what did you get instead of the x?

That 26,000 miles didn't help either-

The national average is 12,000 miles/year- and you more than doubled that- so that hurt you.

It's only one year old, that hurt too.

The special financing on new cars, has made the used car market flacid, so you get LESS on a trade now.

All that hurts.

Local dealerships here wanted to give me $13,000 - $14,000 for mine. CarMax said they'd give me $17,300 if I took my 20's OFF, because that way (W/20's) it'll only appeal to a certain crowd- whereas with teh stock 17's, a wider audience may be interested.

He must not look at the SUV's on the road in Plano. It's hard NOT to see a Suburban, Tahoe, Expy, Navi, Escalade or or Full0Size truck that isn't riding on at LEAST 20's... And, that spans every demographic, from 50+ year old white-haired caucasians in their Escalades on 22's, to the 19 year old brother in his Expedition sittign on 24's- all the way over to the 26 year old Soccer Mom in her Yukon XL on 20's...

I leased a 2001 Expy and the residual value was 51% for a 36 month lease. I was talking to my salesman the other day and we noticed the residual on the 2004 Excursion is 41% on a 36 month lease... Can you say OUCH!!! It will cost an extra $150 a month to lease one of these SUVs.

At two years our Expy's Trade in value was below the 52% ... I do not think I will be buying anything new for a while. In two years with my SuperCrew and my Expy I have lost enough in Value to pay Cash for one of them. Although I make good money, I do not like taking that kind of Beating.

I am looking at purchasing a 2003 Navi coming off of lease next year when I turn in the Expy. My a$$ needs those Airconditioned seats!!!

DUH! it's that way with ANY new vehical (unless it happens to be a very rare and in demand supercar) the 1st year is always the worst for depreciation . . . just check around and you'll see 1 yr old Merc S500 that list for 86k new asking 55k or less . . . you are not alone, just a great oppertunity for someone who doesn't need a brand new Expy to get a good deal.

BTW, way didn't you sell it your self insead of trading it in . . . you could easily have got a few extra $k

I found this to be true 30 years ago when I traded in my 1 year old firebird for a family car.

The hit I took convinced me to never buy another new car again, and except for one time a 1998 Dodge Dakota I have kept this rule.

By buying a used 00 EB I saved over 18,000.00 by waiting two years. That's a chunk of change, at least to me anyway. Almost enough to pay for my Harley.

Dealer in Background

If you bought it from the dealership in the background then that explains alot. Fly by night?
