Angry New 03 and plenty of BRAKE DUST

Got a new 03 EB and the brake dust is horrible on the front rims. We traded in our 01 EB and did not have this problem. Is anyone else having this problem, and is Ford doing anything about it?
Thanks

My '00 was horrible too with factory pads. I'd recommend spending $50 and getting some aftermarket pads then about an hour to install them if the dust is that unbearable.

This is a common complaint with new 03 owners. Some have indicated with more mileage on the pads the dust has lessened. I went and put on Raybestos "Quiet Stops" ceramics all the way around for $160. The dust has been reduced at least 60% or more and I notice an improvement in stopping distance/fading.

Mine is doing the same thing. I called my dealership service department and they told me Ford is aware of the problem and plan to have a resolution for it sometime this quarter. I will let you know if I hear anything else.

Glad to hear Ford knows and is doing something about it. Every one I see looks horrible! My 2000 wasn't bad with OEM pads and after having the dealer install new brakes all around, it seems to be even less. Oh, and yes, the dealer did a fantastic job Can you believe a GOOD dealer comment?

New pads are currently being engineered at this time per Ford. I am a svc advisor and commonly have this complaint on 03 Navs.

I've heard that biting the bullet and going with the ceramic pads can help your cause...

I don't know much about them but, I'd say that it could help...

I hope this is done soon by Ford, I am putting off my new rims until it is. After less than 100 miles of driving my wheels look like poop.

Yeah, my neighbors 03 is usually pretty clean, but his front rims are usually "black" with dust. I would imagine they would at least remedy that in the next year model. Otherwise the new f150's might have the same problem. *shrug*

Seems like the ceramic pads would be so hard they would subject the rotors to a lot of excessive wear. I know little of the ceramic pads, anyone have anything to offer?

brake dust

All,

Once you go ceramic you will never go back. trust me.

I tow my Formula 280ss which ways around 9500 lbs fully loaded twice a year from storage to the marina. around 30 miles and I drive in NYC on a regular basis. I melted my old brake pads and rotors and had to replace all 4 rotors and sets of pads. The front rotors had to be cut off becuase they melted and welded themselves on.

Plus a dramatic reduction in dust along with less fade.

Ceramic rules.
