Since Ford discontinued the cabin air filter kit, has anyone attempted a 'shadetree mechanic' solution? I was wondering if anyone has tried to cut the plastic under the glove box and installed a cut down permanent filter (one of those washable kind).

I was going to give that a try but wanted to see if anyone has tried or have any strong cautions against it.
