Question Help! Is my transfer case toast?

Ok when I turn the front wheels either left or right, more than a 1/4 turn, they slowly start to groan to a stop and feels like they are binding. What is the problem here?? Transfer case issue?

Vehicle in question is a '99 Expedition w/ 4WD and 5.4L motor.
Thanks!!

BTW -- if it IS the transfer case, any ideas on what caused this?

Sounds like it's locked in 4x4. There is a TSB on bad motor contacts on the transfer case motor on 99-2000's. Sounds like your issue.

Question Hmm

Ian, thanks for the quick response. I do know that the previous owner replaced the transfer case about 20k miles ago. Do you think it could still be the TSB causing the problem? It's driving me nuts and I don't want to buy a transfer case! Am I ruining it?

Just looked it up -- http://www.alldata.com/TSB/20/992054DA.html

Would it be:

01-10-12 MAY 01 Wire Harness - Terminal Repair Kit

? It's the only thing I could find that came close to your description.
