Angry Just installed the Flowmaster # 17222 cat back system!!!!!

And I'm not too happy with the sound! Even with the 24 inch long 4 inch slash cut tips exiting the rear! I used the Flowmaster part# FLO-17222 from Summit. Not much different then the stock setup. How about if I cut the second cat out and welded in a pipe where the cat was? Will that help out in the sound? It's a 98 F150 4x4 4.6. And so far this exhaust is the first mod! Any info or ideas will be greatfully appreciated!

for the 430402 flow (its for a chevy 350) I got that after my Ford reccommened flow finnally blew after five years, I always thought it was too quite, but when I put on the new one it was the sound I wanted.

I just added a true dual MagnaFlow to my 98 Scab 4x4, with 4.6L and over the past two days of travel (about 200+ miles), I'm real happy with the result: less shifting on the highway, smooth idle, nice muffled sound--added chrome tips out both sides so I didn't have to worry about fumes entering the cap--entire system is welded (even chrome tips). Only other modification is a K&N air filter, which didn't do squat. Think I might have gained 1-2 mpg too. Finally, the MagnaFlow came with a lifetime warranty. Total cost of the system was less than a hundred over the cost of a single pipe Gibson catback. How can you go wrong!

A friend of mine put on the same system and it is pritty quiet. I think they are using a truck version of the 60 series Flowmaster. If you want it louder get a 40 series SI/DO muffler (non-delta flow if it is available) and replace the one that came with your kit. The non delta flow may not be available in the SI/DO but you can always put in a SI/SO and a Y-pipe behind it. That would be much cheaper then messing with the cats.
Maybe someone from this site will buy your kit muffler since many are looking for a quieter performance muffler.
I installed the magnaflow 14" SI/DO and it is much quieter the the old Flowmaster 40 series I had before.

I agree with WLF. If you want it louder then get the 40 series muffler. It is much louder. I believe i have the 40 series si/so on mine. (not sure what series because it was on the truck when i bought it). But, it sounds pretty bad a$$.

i have the 40 series NON delta flow, and it soulds great with my 4.2L, it makes it sound as good as some of the v-8's imo, my recomendation would be to get a 40 si/so with new pipes single exit and you wont be disappointed!!

What's the difference?

Is there a difference between the 40 series and the Delta Flow 40 series? I can only find single in and out 40 series! Do they even make the 40 series in a dual outlet? I can find it in the Delta Flow version! P.S. the one that came with the kit #17222 had the 50 series number 525561!

Finally changed over to a 40 series, much better! Had to make a different inlet pipe to go from 2 1/2-3 but it was simple. Did all the work at my buddies exhaust shop here in town and then welded it all up with 24"long chrome tips that have a 4.5 slash cut. Looks nice and clean dual out the rears! Thanks guys for the heads up!

I may be smoking something, but my three-chamber delta flow (50 series) got one heck of a lot louder after it broke in. Now she rips at full throttle. is noiticible from far away.
