Just curious what everybody with a 300 is using for an exhaust system, and how do you like the sound? I've got single 3" pipe all the way, no cat (my dad owned the truck before me, cut it off, I never replaced it), with a Flowmaster 50, side exit, with a 3.5" FM SS tip.
I'm pretty happy with the sound. Gotta killer growl from 1k to about 2500 (especially just cruising at around 1800) RPM, then it just howls up top.

My old F150 had the 6 in it, awesome engine, pulled like a damn but slower than $h!t, lol The exhaust on it was going bad and started sounding like a fart cannon. Well I decided I'm gonna upgrade
I went down to the exhaust shop, had them remove the old junk put a y pipe in behind the cat 2 taipipes out the back no muffler. Sounded ballsy, loud, and I loved it around 1800-2000 rpm sounded badass!!! First thing in the morning the idle would run up there around 1800rpm and if you stodd back there you could feel it in your chest, that;s when it counts, LOL! Sounded awesome, gas mileage went up by about 2mpg and well it just sounded badass!!! lol After about 6mon of having the duals on there, the rear cat clogged up and the truck couldn;t go above 50 even while stomping on it
I gutted the cat on it and had my uncle weld my duals back on, I fired it up and MAN IT JUST SCREAMED TO HIGH HEAVEN ,LMFAO I mean the sound was just incredible and had anice crackle around 2500-3000rpm. My low end went bye bye and the gas mileage went down but I didn;t care it just sounded so sweet!!! Also, the 300 6 tends to sound a little ricey without a muffler on there when the rpm's get up high. My suggestion is if your concerned about mileage and good power, a nice cat back or true duals with a balance pipe would sound awesome. Cat backs can bump your mileage up but I dunno about true duals though. Also, true duals will free up more exhaust flow than does a cat back, but if you keep good cats and a nice muffler on it like flowmaster or magnaflow I don;t see why you should have any problems. Hope this helps

My 4.9 sound
I have a 4.9 also. I have the stock cat and with that I have tried a straight 3 in pipe, straight 2.5 and now I have 2.5 in pipe and a larger cherry bomb all of which sound like a farm tractor. It may be the stock cat. But I have still yet to hear a 4.9 sound good. I have given up on mine.
