Isn't that illegal? (Unless you live in Mexico, where everything is legal.. )

-You can do it.

-You will need MIL eliminators.

-If you have inspections: you'll fail.

-You cannot legally sell the truck without cats and if you have to replace them it's over $1000.00.

The OEM cats don't reduce performance all that much. If they clog or you really want the OEM cats gone, you can get high-flow cats for a few hundred dollars.

I recommend that you cut them off and stick 'em up your a$$ this very moment

Then you can speak with a true authority and think twice about editing your post if you don't like our answers

Whoohhhh man!, taking things a little too serious aren't we?

I just thought that I would drop it since it doesn't seem to be to popular around here and maybe get a few laughs.

I know that this doesn't make it right, but I live in a rural area that doesn't have smog checks. Every redneck around here has cut the cats off of their trucks. It was just a simple question and I didn't really want all the legal jumbo b/c it really doesn't apply to me.

Thanks for the responses though.

So you do not mind poisoning the environment for a little more sound? You give rednecks a bad name.

He said he lives out in a rural area that doesn't have emission inspections.

I'd cut em off and get the MIL eliminators.

Yea, I live in a non-emission county as well. I had the cats cut of my Mustang when I bought it. I just had to buy those pesky MIL elimintors. After that it was loud cruising.

JW - I'm jealous

My other car is a 98 Mustang GT Convertible but I'm in a metro area with smog dogs sniffing out tailpipes on the freeway off ramps.

I will probably keep them for now at least until the warranty runs out. I am just going to get some magnaflows welded in.

The smog police will be everywhere eventually.

....then, me is hiding the cobra in the shop

I don't have cats on my truck, the muffler shop cut them off for me. As for polluting the earth, well we're all gonna die sooner or later! lol

It is illegal in all 50 states to remove emissions equipment (including cats). It does not matter if you have smog checks or not. I know some people do not care about the environment but most of us do. Taking the cats off of late model trucks does not really give you much performance gain, it just makes noise and dumps out more poisonous gasses. I am not a tree hugger and I should probably do more for the environment myself. I should recycle more for one.
