Question cats on or cats off????

I am curious and benn puzzled about catalytic converters on veichles. I know what they do and how they work, I was talking to my Uncle today who is very well experienced with Ford Trucks and knows a great deal about them. Well we were chattin about my exhaust systems as I was showing him my duals on it. Well the issue of catalytic converters was brought up. He said that taking the cats off whenever they go out should make the truck run better, which is my truck. (1991 F-150 300 6) I said really????/ uncle says yea because your 02 sensor is before the cats(I have 2 cats on my truck) Uncle says yea it shoudn't have any effect on the truck at all because if the 02 sensor is before the cats, it shoudn;t make a difference and your gettung rid of all that crap and cut down on the back pressure. However, I thought well, If I take my cats off I will lose low end, but If I keep a good muffler on it I shoudn;t sacrfice too much and maybe it would make the truck run better??????????? I trust my Uncle alot and I'm just makin sure I know what I'm doin before I go messin with the truck. So any advice you guys wanna shoot at me, go for it I'm all ears

I had the rear cat removed and have not lost any low end, and the truck really sounds mean now.

You can remove the cats and it will run just fine. A 6cyl might sound a lil 'ricey' if you dont have a muffler. So I'd go with a good high flowing muffler and not look back. Just my opinion.
