removing stock exhaust
removing stock exhaust
has anyone removed the stock muffler and tailpipe as a unit instead of cutting it off?i want to keep the stock set up so if it needs to be put back on i want need a muffler shop.its an exstended cab 2wd 150.
I have an 01 Supercrew and I did one cut in front of the muffler and was able to get the whole muffler and tailpipe off in one piece by jacking up the rear of the truck. You have to jack up the body and not the axle. I installed a Gibson dual sport and wanted to keep the original muffler/tailpipe just in case of whatever.
Did the same
I had a muffler shop cut mine the same too, just put it up in the attic. I just ran a Y pipe a duals out the back, making some loud straight pipes. Sound is amazing. But ya, you shouldnt have any problem doing what we did.

I did the same thing with I installed my Gibson Super Truck exhause. I made an ' L ' shaped cut so I could peel back a bit of the original muffler inlet. Before I made the cut the muffler was loose (would move up and down as well as a bit of rotation) but they clamped it so tight at the factory that they deformed both the pipe from the cats and the inlet to the muffler. This made a nice little groove that I couldn't get the muffler past.
