Unhappy I need some help

I just bought an 02 FX4 screw. 5.4 4R70 tranny I want to add an exhaust. Nothing elaborate, however, I think I want a Magna Flow Round, straight through, with a single side outlet and a nice looking Stainless tip.

Is this smart?

What size inlet and Outlet?

I am currently getting 17 mpg and so far it runs great. I had a flow 40 series on an 00 4x4 that ran good and sounded good but I have been told that Flowmaster is a poor choice unless you are after the sound.

I also had an 01 H-D with a Dynamax 3" in 3" dual outlet that was okay at best. At 29,000 it began to shift like S*&t and no one could fix it so away it went.

Both previous trucks had K&N Fipk's.

I don't think I will go with another FIPK just a replacement K&N for the stock air box and a good exhaust.

What do you think?

thats kind of what i did- add K&N and a free flowing exhaust. Both help your engine breathe easier , therefore freeing up torque and hp. Personally if your gona get custom exhaust, get dual ext pipes. Having a single pipe with loud exhaust is ok, but it really sounds neat when you have dual pipes rumbling instead of one. just my thoughts.
