STILL looking for louder......

....but maybe it's just me. After having a 40 Series si/do Flowmaster, 2.25" tailpipes, and 3.25"x22" tips installed, the tone of the sound is great, but I just want more volume! Maybe the muffler shop installed the 50 series instead. Is there any way to tell the difference from the outside of the muffler? I don't know, I've just heard so many people say the 40 series is pretty loud, but it seems to be relatively tame to me. I've heard some F-150s with Flowmaster exhaust that REALLY roar, but mine just doesn't seem to sound as loud as theirs. Maybe it's because I'm always in the cab of my truck, and I don't get the full effect of the volume and tone of my truck. Will headers make a difference in the sound? Some people have said that I should take the flowmaster off and just run the pipes....then I'm stuck with having to try to sell a used flowmaster, and I've got $210 in a $150 set up. Somebody please help....I'm totally lost on this situation. Only got a couple of responses on this question before so any further input would be exremely appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Jason

Check the part number stamped on the muffler then go to the Flowmaster site and search it. It should tell you what one it is for sure.
Just an idea

I don't know-

Hey, I must have a 40 series Muffler on my SuperCrew, because I have a 4.6L, my cousin has a 5.4L, and my truck makes his sound 'wimpy'.

I don't know what I have, or what he has. All I know is we both have flowmaster si/do's, and mine is louder, even though my engine is smaller...... Go figure.

Both of those trucks are louder than my Borla, which is maybe a few db lower than my cousins Flows....

He has the K&N FIPK, I have K&N Air filters on both of my trucks, in the factory airboxes....

If you want louder, you can do one of a few things:

Cut the catalytic converter out, and run true duals, straight pipes, no mufflers. (Then worry about the cops & EPA & emmissoins testing)

Have a Y pipe installed after the cat, and run straight pipes.

Install purple hornies glass packs, and scare the hell out of the neighbors when you crank it up at 06:30 AM!!! They'll think it's a thunderstorm....

Measure the main body length of the FM muffler.

Two chambers are 13" long.
Three chambers are 19" long.

That said, what's the deal with noise?
It's all about music, internal combustion music.
Good sounds, good tones.

Some of the dual exhaust setups I hear sound like a vehicle with a broken tailpipe and blown out muffler.
They don't sound like race cars because they ain't.
They're a big and heavy truck and in my opinion you don't prove much by simply making it loud.
