Y-Pipe quesion....
A "Y-pipe" is a more efficient version of piping in place of the factory "T" where the pipe comes from the driver's side catalytic converters and joins the pipe exiting the passenger side converters, then one pipe goes from there to your muffler.
An aftermarket Y-pipe improves the exhaust flow at that junction.
You can see some pictures in my exhaust how-to here: http://members.shaw.ca/pferlow/exhaust_f-150.htm
The flowmaster pipe looks like this:
On mine it goes from dual 2.5 inch IN to a single 3 inch out in the Y-pipe and the rest of the system is 3 inch. You can see how the flow is improved.
It's a lot of work to cut all the pipes and welding. If you can't do it yourself it'll cost you at least an arm.

p_ferlow,
Have you seen any mpg improvements since this mod? I' up between 1-1.5 mpg's this year and I'm not sure whether to attribute this to the y-pipe mod or the fact that I went through the truck and changed every single conponent to synthetic oil. Hmmmm or maybe its a combination of both?
