What exhaust for a 97 f-150?

Hi I am new to this forum but i have been on forums a lot.

I am interested in getting an exhaust for my 97 f-150 ext cab. I am not sure what to get. I want something that has good sound to it, not too loud, but louder than stock. Not too expensive either. Thanx.

I have been looking into an exhaust too. Tonight I drove my friends 1500 and he has Duals on there. Just pipes running off his catilitic converters with some 3 inch chrome tips. I must say is sounded great. I think I may get the same thing. It costs about 100-150 bucks.

Cool Cat Back

Bought from SUMMITT racing, and installed a FLOWMASTER on my 4.6 XL SB duals rear exit. This cat-back system has been on the truck for three years now (20k miles), and they look as good as they sound. The aluminized system really holds up as advertised. In the long run, you get what you pay for, consider that when looking at the price.

I want to run duals out the side, but am not sure yet. The duals out rear is also an option. Around here. Nova Scotia, Canada barely anything under the car truck stands up, we put brand new stainless steel tips, guaranteed not too rust, guess what!!

I have a 97 f150 x-cab, 4.6 Liter. My setup is a FlowMaster 50 series dual inlet (2.25") dual outlet, true dual setup. They used aluminized piping and I have 3.5" x 16" chrome slash tips. It sounds really good and I've noticed a better response at higher RPMs (3500-5000). I did notice a loss of low-end torque, but this is common in these applications and I am currently rectifying that situation.

If you want to be louder, you can go with the 40 series setup. Its a two chamber design. With my system, I don't get too much noise in the cab. I really like it.

Complete setup was $350 installed. I will be adding an X-Pipe pretty soon since they cut the Y out.

I bought the Gibson S/T at PEP BOYS for 287.00 three years ago and still love it after 60,000 mi. It installs in about 15 minutes and looks and sounds great.

MEANGRNF150,

If you find a good deal, please post. I'm in New Brunswick and I know what you mean about stainless not rusting.

On my 97 Lariat I have pacesetter headers and a true dual setup using 2 Flowmaster 40 series mufflers. I think it ended up costing $200 for the mufflers to be put on. When he put them up , he cut off the y pipe and ran duals all the way back to the mufflers. I love the sound of my system with the tips turned down in front of the rear axle

I've got the Flomaster 50 SI/DO with stainless steel tips out the side in front of the tire. Sound is awesome.
