Need some new pipes
Well I have a problem with my exhaust. Its too loud. I don't think it is but other people do and are complaining. I don't even get on it in my local town but it echoes down mainstreet really bad and people claim I wake them up when I come home at nite. I am running true dual straight pipes with 2.5" pipes.
I am thinking of puttin on 2 Dynomax Ultra Flows. But I am open to suggestions. I don't want it TOO quiet and I want an aggressive mean tone out of it. It just doesn't need to be as aggressive as the straights are.
If you were in my situation what would you do?

I like my neighbors so I would'nt want to tick them off even though I doubt they'd complain. If you could find mufflers that are quiet at low RPMs and louder at high RPMs, both you and your neighbors can stay happy. Just go easy on the gas pedal when your in town.
I never heard one but people here have said that Spintech mufflers have this quality. There are probably others too and I'm sure more folks will list them shortly.
Good luck.

Fordman,
I have a question for you. Are you getting on it much when people complain? I'm asking because I also run straight pipes (have for years) and have never had a complaint. Well, since I was a kid anyway. LOL! These trucks aren't that loud with straight pipes on them, unless you are giving it hell. I understand your not wanting to make your neighbors mad, but they sound a little **** to me. Do what you feel is best, Rich.

Rich,
I'm not gettin on it in town. Average rpms on take off are prolly around 2,000. The people that complained are old people in town and I dont know if they are even serious. I know they shouldn't be complaining about me with the couple guys in town with Harleys. The buildings on our main street are pretty close together so it doesn't take much to have it echoeing. That is what they don't like I think.

I had true dual straight pipes and thought they were too loud, so i decided to put cheap *** thrush glasspacks on thinking they wouldn't really reduce the sound since they are straight thru, but i was wrong. With the glasspacks it is not loud at all. I really regret putting them on, and i'm going to take them back off soon. I miss having a loud *** truck
JC Whitney and a few other places sell cable operated exhaust cutouts. You could buy a cheapo set of turbo mufflers for in town, and open it up when your out on the road. Just weld the cutouts in, and Y off the cutout part to the turbos. Put a little turndown on the back of the mufflers, and your neighbors can sleep through the night, LOL!,,,98

Just wondering...if you are waking them up, how do they know it's you that's waking them. Are they running to there windows as soon as they hear a rumble? My great grandmother has this same problem....she swears that her refrigerator wakes her up at night, but it really her giant clock that makes all the noise!!
I have the shotgun ;)
Well last Saturday I had my exhaust re-done. I am running true duals (2.5") with stainless steel straight cut tips. It is alot louder than it was. This style of tip really makes it snap. I am gettin more power across my rpm range and my fuel mileage is better than usual.
Well there really is no point to my madness
I just thought I'd add some mufflers and get a different sound. Instead of wasting my money on mufflers I just added new tailpipes with new tips. I like them ALOT better out the side than straight out.
Makes it easier to echo off of bridges and compact cars with Bumblee Bee mufflers (aka - FartCans
)
