Question Putting stock exhaust back on.

I currently have a si/do flowmaster exhaust with chrome tips. Although it's not rusting right now, I would like to wait till the Fall of the year and have my stock exhaust put back on. It's sitting in my backyard with no rust at all on it(2001), except for where the hangers use to be. But there is one small problem. When the muffler guy cut the pipe off in front of the muffler, he only left about a 1/4" of pipe sticking out(or less). Can they still re-install my exhaust with only this much pipe sticking out? Also, can they put hangers on where the old ones use to be? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

A muffler shop will have no problem making it work. They will weld new hangers on the muffler to. As long as you have the money they will do their magic. Sadness is a retired flowmaster. Keep on truckin!!!!

No friggin way would I go back to my OE exhaust. In fact I'm taking it to the dump on the weekend.

Because it's stainless steel. And a v6 gets better low-end torque with the stock exhaust with the added backpressure. Ask anybody.

I may keep my flowmaster on a little while longer. I found a Gibson sweptside exhaust that looks somewhat like my stock exhaust. I may go that route since they also have a stainless version of the sweptside.

User "Hawkeye" on www.fordf150.net forums had a stainless Gibson sweptside. He said the stainless grade of steel they use is sh_t. Surface rust already. He swapped his muffler for a Dynomax Ultra-flo stainless and loves the look and new sound. He said the Gibson was quiet like OE, too quiet for him.

The aluminized Gibsons seem to have baffle weld rust problems and no warranty from Gibson even though they give some sort of lifetime warranty on them.

Not trying to bash here just what I read around the forums.

And this is a concern for you for why ????
Unless I am dense, with the V-6 are you towning large loads ?

Given I have a 5.4L I noticed mpg improvements ( as long as I keep my foot out of it ) after the K&N and Gibson exhst.

The next thing that improved my mpg ( again with keeping my foot out of it ) was the GMS MAFS.

Just a question I had in my mind as to why the ( what I *think* so don't quote me on this ) marginal tq increase is that important vs the increase in hp / mpg from the mods you have?

Yeah I do some towing/hauling from time to time. It just seems that I lost a little low-end torque when I put my FM 40 SI/DO exhaust on. I'm just looking for a way to get it back. That's the reason I wanted to put my stock exhaust back on. And because that's the only mod I've done, it would be alot easier to go back to my stock exhaust to gain the torque back. But I'll wait awhile before I take my flowmaster off. Maybe by that time I'll have enough money to invest in a Dynomax or a Magnaflow si/so exhaust system. Hopefully with my fingers crossed...

Maybe then check out the long tubes that the L owners use.

I think that JDM is a popular option on these, but I don't own a L or use the JDM Long tubes to know why thesea re the prefered L exhst system, it could be the tq issue.
Maybe drop an email to one of the supporting vendors that do L work, and ask them if they have something that would help in this area.

I tow a tandem axel well cargo about 1/month, and don't notice this with the 5.4, for what I have lost.

Do you have numbers for your engine on the tq loss, it may not be as great of a number.
You just have to decide if the low end tq is worth the loss of the HP / mpg numbers.

Just a few items to kick around, not real sure on any of them to be outright.
