Cool Hi-Flow Cats

I am planning on ripping out (not literally) my Flowmaster exhaust and replacing it with true duals (straight pipes w/ no muffs). While I am having this done, the guy at the shop suggested removing the 4 OEM cats and replacing with 2 high flow cats.

my question is, how much are high flow cats costing these days? i am serious about this post, so any answers would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

Straight pipes with aftermarket cats should be damn LOUD!

Here it's illegal to remove catalytic converters that are functioning correctly.

Depends on where you are, but i've read that if you've had the cats for a certain number of years/miles you can replace them.

right, i think in most states it is illegal to remove functional cats, but the way i see it, as long as you have some form of a converter on there, there ain't nothin wrong.

Is this a greater Vancouver by-law? there is no such thing on the island here so I thought it might ba a lower mainland air care by-law..

I can't remember where I read it now (about removing working cat's).

I really don't think it matters what you put on the vehicle, you'll need some sort of catalytic converters to pass air-care.

If you sell the vehicle without cats on it to someone else they could trace it back to you and you'd take the sh_t as far as the law is concerned.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with replacing your OE cats with hi-flo units. What I don't agree with is those people that remove them entirely. I'm not really a tree hugger but taking something off that amounts to a lot of harmful gases blowing into our environment for a couple of HP doesn't make any common sense.

Kind of reminds me of those f_cken people that empty their ashtray on the ground at a stop light instead of walking 10ft to find a trash can. No respect.

I ran into a dude once that got so pissed when he saw the driver in front of him (in rush hour parking lot) empty his ashtray he got some newspaper, picked it up and threw it in the guy's open car window and said, "Oops... you dropped something."

Sorry... kind of got on a tangent there.

Are you looking for just the cats, or a system.

Summit ( I am sure truckperformance.com has them for the same price +/- $ 10.00 so check the shipping costs between the 2 ) has the BBK Mustange Cobra H pipe for the 4.6 ~ 400.00 ( BBK-1582 ).
While I don't know if this specifically would fit under there, it is just one thought, all be it kind of expensive.

Just watch out if you have noise abatement laws.
In IL they have EPA guys ( additional brother in law jobs I guess ) that sit on the side of the road at traffi lights with dB meters, and if your exhst is too loud they pull you over and ticket you.
In IL EPA tickets are movers now, so it is a punch against your license.
Just 2 little things to take into account....never can tell when your state might do the same <g>
BTW : The dopes some times cannot tell a Desiel from a gas motor, they pulled my dad over and tried to ticket him, a State cop stoped to "assist" in the stop and asked the EPA guy what the f is your problem, that is a desiel truck <g> The law is not wide spread applied to Desiels yet, only Cook county has this at the moment.

I am almost sure that you can change them after 70K miles even if they are working properly, but not before unless there is a malfunction.

I'll give you away to replace them. Find the biggest drill bit you can find and drill the sh_t out of it! that way they cant say its in good condition and they have to replace it!
