exhaust system

ok, im not sure where to start, im new to this, and I dont want to spend a fortune if I dont have to. I have a 98 F150, v-8 4.6L. I want to upgrade to something a little better then factory. I was thinking about dual pipes coming out of the rear. I am mostly concerned about improving performance, however, I wouldnt mind beefing up the sound a little though. Is there a kit that comes with what I need, or do I have to piece it together? I dont want to replace everything, maybe just new muffler, new tailpipes, and new tips? Like I said before, im new to this, can you please help. Thanks!

There are all kinds of Catback systems out there I'm sure you can just do a muffler on back as well I had my truck 2 and a half years and still have the stock system but in another month or 2 I may get it upgraded more for sound as I want it to sound like a V8.

you didnt post your location, here in big D there are several muffeler shops who will fab the pipes in for you and you can bring in your own muffler or they,ll sell you one. i went with the flowmasters when i bought my truck in 97 and the muffler and the tips finnally wore out so i changed up to a different flow because i always thought it could be a little loader. i went with the flow #430402 3" in dual 2.5" out, just right and it cost me 85 for the muffler, 35 to put it in and 50 for both tips welded in. a buddy of mine took his 02 f250 to the shop and they installed a complete flow system for 260, so if you shop around or do like i did and asked around youll find a good shop.
