Tips

Just installed a dual catback system, 2 1/4 pipes. What should I do for Tips? Chrome? Stainless? Angled?

Do they need to be welded on? Clamped? Screwed?

The exhaust comes straight out the back of my 2001 S'crew. See my gallery for pics of my truck (before the new exhaust)

Thanks in advance!

Jenn,
Go with the Stainless tips, slash cut looks good. Chrome tips look good for awhile, but will eventually rust. Some tips come with built in clamps that make them removable if you need to replace the tailpipe. Gibson makes a nice stainless tip with built in clamps.
Good luck.

I'd go for stainless if I wanted to spend a little extra. I
personally don't like the slash cut. I'm actually having new
tips put on today. I opted for the chromed-straight cut in
a 12 inch length. Chrome doesn't last as long, but I usually
replace them after 6-7 months anyway just to change up.

Good luck.

Scott -

Post a pic of them (if you can) when you're done. I wanna see what they look like.

Thanks!

No problem...

but it may be awhile. I'm heading out on vacation shortly.
I'll post them under a new thread with your name. I'm
not exactly happy with the results. I noticed after I had
picked my truck up yesterday that the guy had one of the
tips slant downward. I've got to take it back either today
or tomorrow. As for sound, it is really not a noticeable
difference, although it does have a deeper growl to it.

I checked them out this morning and noticed that there is
already rust on the inside of them. I'm gonna paint the
inside with some type of rust inhibitor soon. That's the
price you pay for not getting stainless I guess.

I just had a Flowmaster 50 installed today with a realy nice chrome tip with rolled edge. I know it won't last as long as stainless but I like the chrome look. It's 10" or 12" long and really looks tough.

Jenn,

I have the chrome now, and after 2 years they are looking kinda rough. Granted, my truck receives fair amounts of dirt and mud and I'm not one to wash it much. I will probably put the stainless on next time; although, it will depend on the price. The chrome tips I have now are 18" by 3 1/2" and were really cheap. I think I paid around $40 for both welded up. I'm going to clean them up next week and see what I think. You probably get lots more snow than I do, so the stainless may be your best choice. Good luck with your decision, Rich.

I'd definitely go with stainless tips...they don't rust and they look brillant all the time. They're also easy to clean...here's a pic of mine.

I have a Flowmaster 40 dual exhaust with a set of 18" x 3-1/2" chrome tips. They look good but I know they're going to start rusting soon. I'd go for the stainless. Jeg's catalog sells stainless tips for 2-1/4" pipe. They are calle Meg's sound tips. And they run about $30-$35 per tip. You can go online and check em' out at Jeg's high performance. Just thought I'd help you out.

I have duals on mine w/ 40 series flowmasters. I used Slant cut stainless 18" long by 5" wide. They are big but i love the way it looks. Just personal perference on size, i would always use stainless steel though... but i play in the mud a lot...
