exhaust ideas...what do you think?
Ok, I've got the superchip. I did the homemade FIPK. Now I'm ready to do something with my exhaust. I'm very weary of losing any torque, and I don't want the loudest system possible. I'm also trying to keep cost to a minimum. I'm just looking for some modest improvement in overall performance and a good muscular sound. Here's what I'm thinking of doing...
-Keep factory tailpipe since it's already mandrel bent around the axle, and I don't want to go to 3" and lose torque.
-Replace factory muffler w/ 2.5" si/so (Magnaflow, Ravin, or Gibson)
-Replace factory y-pipe w/ better flowing aftermarket 2.5" inlets and 2.5" outlet
Here are my questions: Which muffler would best accomplish my goals of good sound w/ no torque loss? Where can I get a good 2.5" in and 2.5" out Y-pipe? Flowmaster's pipes are all 3" outlet.
Thanks in advance for any advice. This board has been an invaluable resource to me since I've started to modify my truck.
Thanks,
Scrib

I've heard that a 3 chamber Flowmaster 50 series won't result in a lot of torque loss. I'm thinking about just gettint that muffler and keeping the stock pipes. All i really want is the noise anyways.
I don't think a free-flowing muffler alone means you are going to lose torque. Torque *is* lost when you go to a larger diameter pipe (or duals that are too big). If you stay with the stock 2 1/2 pipe, you wouldn't lose any torque.
I did a homemade cat-back and I'm thrilled with the performance increase. Homemade means: cut off old system just in front of the stock muffler, clamp-on a performance muffler (I used the 50 Series Flowmaster), clamp-on a mandrel-bent section of pipe as a turndown. Total cost: about $90.
I gained at all RPMs. Not as much as adding the Superchip, but the intake/exhaust upgrade made a noticable improvement.
