Does anyone know why.....

Ford changed the exhaust to exit after the rear tire instead of before the rear tire?

Thanks

Aaron

Another ill-fated, money saving idea!!!

The exhaust gases were turning the wheel green

Does anyone know of the physical differences between the 97 front exit and the 98 rear exit. I know there is added pipe, and a hanger but is there anythng else. A lot of the aftermarket system's I see start with the 98 year or if they do list 97 it's still in front of the tire. Is this just due to a missing $3 hanger or are tehre cahnges elsewhere?

There are additional heat shields as well. They are along the bottom of the bed. I'm lucky in that respect. While I have a 97, mine came from the factory with the rear exit pipe and the additional heat shields. Mine was manufactured 3/97, so they must have started fixing them by then.

If the biggest change besides the pipe is the addition of heat shields than it doesn't make a bit of difference to me. I hardly hual anything so heat in the bed is not a big deal and I will be going duals so one side would have missing sheilds anyways. I just always wondered and now I know.

Side exit was one of the stupidist things that ford did. My rim is all bubbled and looks like crap from the exhaust and frost build up in the winter time.

Ford stated, too many customers had been unhappy with the exhaust fumes entering the cab. Especially, in the winter time.
