Gibson Split Rear on 4X4
Gibson Split Rear on 4X4
Looking at putting a Gibson Split-Rear on a '00 Sport 4X4.
One of the notes the counterman at the shop mentioned was a possible issue with the spare having to be relocated or removed.
Anybody here with the above(or similar), and if so, what did you have to do?

No problem.
Mastermix,
I have put this kit on two trucks (mine and my father's) without any problems with the spare. You should be able to "play" with the pipes a bit before you tighten the clamps, to make sure they do not rub. However, neither my father nor I have the off road package with the 17" wheels, so I am not sure about that. But the way my pipes hang there would be no trouble fitting that size spare. Plenty of room. Hope that helped...

Hey Jimmy,
Thanks for the reply. I'm considering of going with the swept-rear if clearance will be a problem with the split, or possibly a custom job using a Gibson muffler.
My truck isn't an ORP, but does have the 17" wheels.
You installed the two kits? How much "fun" was it? What tools did you need?
Thanks

Well "fun" is always relative. But, as many people on this board have already said, the really "fun" part is getting the old exhaust off. Some have tried taking off the clamps, but I wasted about an hour on my truck trying to get it off without cutting. My advice is to get a reciprocating saw and just cut it. Other than that, you need a jack and stands, socket wrenches, some open-ended wrenches (maybe), maybe a mallet to fit the pipes tightly, and several hours. The first one took me a half day, the second only a few hours. It really isn't complex, and the kit comes complete. Take your time and it will come out great. Plus, at least for me, you have the added satisfaction of doing it yourself. If you need any more info, let me know.
