question plz help

hey i'm new to this whole truck modding thing. i have a 2000 red f150 sport w/4.2 auto. i've been wanting to put exhaust on. i'm not worried about performance increases or anything. all i want is it to sound good and not like a whiny v6, but more deep like a v8. i would like dual pipes out the side, but it doesn't matter all that much. if there are any guides you guys know or websites that could help me i would appreciate it. if someone could tell me where to get the kit and what kind i would appreciate it. let me remind you that i have almost absolutely no knowledge about exhaust systems and such. thanks for any help that you can give me

your best source of information is going to be from an F-150 site, like this one or www.f150world.com just read about what others have done. most likely it will come down to glasspacks, flowmaster, or gibson. i personally like the glasspacks because they are louder, many don't like them for the same reason. you might be best off checking muffler shops in your area to get quotes, rather than just ordering the parts online. when you look for tips, the bigger the better in your case. the wider, longer tips are going to give you a deeper sound. about going out the side - i have heard from some that if you exit before the wheels it will get that rear wheel dirty quick, again, that is just what i've heard. i have mine going out the back, but am probably going to get it dumped (end it after the muffler) soon. you can check sites like www.truckperformance.com to see what exhaust kits they have, but again, i recommend just going to local shops. hope this helps, if you have any other questions just e-mail me, i'll try to help you out.

oh yeah, if you still want a louder, deeper sound you can get an exhaust cut-out from www.summitracing.com, i have one and love it. i run it open all the time.

hey...thanks a lot for the information. i asked some of my friends about a local shop and there's only 1 in my area cause i live in a small town, so i'll prolly just go check it out and see what all he's got. i've been looking at the gibson exhaust system that is split and exits out the sides behind the wheels. But then again there are so many options....tough decisions....thanks for the help
