Stock Stainless?

I think I asked this somewhere else but I've been all over this forum and can't find it. I'm picking up my SuperCrew (2001)tomorrow and was wondering:

Is the stock exhaust stainless?

If it is, would adding a performance muffler make much of a difference (without an entire cat-back)?

If it is, does welding the two together require special treatment (TIG?) or create a corrosion problem?

Yea

The stock exhaust is stainless, you wont get any added benefit of a whole cat back as copaired to just a muffler. All the perormance to be made is in the muffler, the rest is just looks.
And I dont belive you need to do any special welding.

The size of the exhaust, not just the muffler ca/will effect performance. You can easily loose low end by opening it up too much. However, just replacing the muffler would probably get you what you want, depending of course on what you want to gain. For most it's sound.

An aftermarket HP muffler will add performance and sound. Most of the HP mufflers flow twice as much or more as the OEM "garbage can". I suggest buying a stainless steel muffler and using stainless steel pipe for the extra that's usually installed.
