Whatza' "Catback" System?
OK ... I plead ignorance. What exactly is a "catback" system? I'm assuming that the "cat" is the catalytic converter - does this system incude a performance catalytic converter and everything behind it?
yean-
Yes, "cat" = catalytic convertor.
Cat-back exhaust systems are a pre-engineered exhaust system that replaces most of the exhaust system "back" from the cats. On F-150s, they usually replace everything behind the Y-intersection at the first slip joint. This type of system would be an alternative to having a muffler shop make a system from scratch.

My understanding is that it an aftermarket (dual) exhaust from the catalytic converter "back" to the exhaust tips. It usually includes the muffler(s) and exhaust pipes. There are different systems that may include other components like an "X" pipe; dual mufflers and different exhaust pipe configurations (duals exiting on each side of the rear bumper; duals exiting together on one side or the other, etc. You get the idea. Mind just has the cat. converter and pipes back fromt here: no muffler.
Like Max said...it's everything after the catalytic to the end of the pipes. It doesn't have to be duals, but it can be. Usually if you buy a catback system that does have "dual" exhaust (read "two pipes exiting from the rear"), it usually only has one muffler which has one inlet pipe and two exhaust pipes. The are generally engineered for specific applications, so you don't have to worry about pipe size and muffler flow. It's hard to find a true dual kit with two mufflers, because most engines would not benefit from a set-up that flows that much exhaust.
Ha!
Good one! I like the way you think! Thanks for the "advice". With that kinda' logic, I can't wait for a taillight bulb to burn out so I can replace 'em with some Euro Lenses!
