Question Gibson Headers

Anyone have experience with Gibson headers on their 5.4 V8? I'm contemplating headers for increases in horsepower and torque, but a buddy of mine says that many late-model engines don't run well with after-market headers?

My '98 5.4 runs great; I don't want to "mess things up"!!! Thanks.

KeithG, I guess there aren't that many owners who have purchased the Gibson headers....

My brother in law has a 2000 F150 Screw 4x4 and he installed some headers; can't recall brand; and pulled the mufler out. His truck sounds and drives great!! No loss of low end torque.

Is it legal to drive without a muffler? What about passing smog tests?

I've had Gibson Headers on my truck since last summer and love them. I live in Alaska and everyone I know up here was telling me that I was going to run into problems with my headers during the winter. It stays way below zero for months and they were saying after my engine was heated up the headers might cool off way to fast and come loose or warp. The headers gave me quite a noticeable power increase and increased the sound of my exhaust note as well. I would recommend Gibsons to anyone thinking of adding headers, and besides your next best choice would be JBA's. I think I forgot to mention that winter starts at the end of August and lasts until about mid May up here, so I am pretty impressed that these headers can take the constant heating and rapid cooling without having to be constantly tightened.
