Question Ceramic?

Hey folks, just a quick question. On headers: does a ceramic coating or the ceramic/cloth wrap increase the heat intensity around the pipes? I've been considering the ceramics but here in Texas the last thing you need in the summer is MORE heat! Thanks for any help available.

(Dang, feel like Columbo now) One more thing...Do you replace or supplement your Cat. when you go from single to dual. (Meaning replace with two smaller or add another "same" sized)?

ceramic coating insulates the headers, keeps the heat in the exhaust, and keeps underhood temperature down.

Welcome !! You don't mess with your cats on a 2001 model, you cut--90 degree--and add a second pipe on the driver's side pipe after the cat. The passengers side is all done after the cat too.

Clarify?

Max:
Sorry, one of us is confused (prob. me).
Are you suggesting that I leave my 8 into 1 setup as-is until AFTER the cat? THEN split into two?
My original plan was to install an X-box and figure the size for TWO smaller cat.s -1 in each line.
Is this as "out there" as it may sound?
Thanks for the help.
H.

(Update)
Ok, "ha ha"
A 6x8x4 box in the center of my X-pipe

I don't confuse easily. 8 into 1 = interesting. Go look under your truck; each bank of 4 cylinders collects into 1)2.5" pipe on each side (so 2). These 2)pipes include a pre-cat, a regular cat, and your sensors on each side. This is all before the 2)pipes combine into 1)2.5" exhaust pipe. So, to add duals, you have to cut the driver's side pipe after the cats but before the Y-intersection; it's then curved back and a second pipe is added. For the passenger's side pipe, you can re-use it with a plug welded over the now missing driver's side pipe or cut it off behind the cat and install a second new pipe.

im not making fun of you, i just dont really understand what you mean. you mean youre gonna be adding an xpipe that works kinda like the prochamber H pipe that mac sells for mustangs (i dont know if youre familiar with it). its kind of like an x pipe, but its a box instead of the X. i dont think anyone here has tried that before, most people go for a standard X or H pipe with the true duals. good luck with that!

Thanks to all

No offense taken! It was funny!
I recently saw photos of a truck that had a box (approx. 6x8x4") right behind the tranny with each pipe positioned at a rather smoothed out "corner" in the "X" style. Looked more like a 4 legged tarantula than a 4 way lug wrench, if you know what I mean.

Max:
Absolutely right and thanks for having patience with a moron (myself). Had I actually "looked" and not glanced, this first time V-8er would have seen for himself - 2lines/2cat.s.
Thanks again.
H.
