X-pipe, 3" pipe

Hey everyone,

Will an X-pipe on a 5.4 add performance, and how about 3"pipe, or is this too much back pressure loss...and the truck has true duals, in case ya'll didn't read my sig....

Thanks

3" true duals are gonna cost you some serious power. with true duals on modular engines, i wouldn't go any higher than 2.25" exhaust. as far as the x-pipe, im not really sure how good they are for your trucks. by the way, that is the longest sig i have ever seen!

Smile that's what I was wondering..

Thanks Donate54,

I was not sure if the 3" was a waste of money or if it would help out a little....I have heard some good things about an x-pipe, about how it equalizes pressures in the dual applications....has anyone put their truck on the dyno after an x-pipe, I can get one fabricated for cheap and just needed some info...that way it is one more thing to add to my long sig...lol

Thanks again

flats-man i think it was installed an x-pipe true dual exhaust on his 4.6 and lost 17 rwhp. his loss was most likely due to the diameter piping used, however. he used 2.5" all around with an x pipe, but 2.5" is way too big for a 4.6. im not sure if anyone here has tried true duals with an x pipe and 2.25" piping.

Check out this tech page, It's got some good info on choosing pipe sizes.

Also, read the thread titled "X-pipe bad boy exhaust". It has real world results backed by dyno runs! Great research when you can find it.

Good luck 5.4lariat. Let us know how things turn out.

x-pipe after spring break

I have to go to Port Isabel for my girlfriends spring break...and when I get back I am going to try and dyno the truck, and then get an x-pipe, then re-dyno. I will be staying with the 2.25" piping on the duals...and see what the x-pipe does, hopefully it will help the5.4....it is worth a try and I have a friend at kinnys muffler shop.

I will post back when I get the dyno results..hopefull not too long...
