97 F150 Side Exit Exhaust???

Question 97 F150 Side Exit Exhaust???

I'm looking for a cat-back exhaust system for 97 F150. My pipes exit out the passenger side in front of the rear wheel. I like Gibson systems, but the tips on the "Super Truck" (squared) look shiitty. I've emailed Gibson, no response. Can I get a Gibson exhaust with standard pipes. Are there any other exhaust systems with this kind of exit that anyone would recommend??

Kompressor, I'm certainly not an expert on performance exhaust, but I had mine custom made for my flareside...it's a Dynomax muffler and the pipes were bent to exit out the side...I also had a couple of AirForceOne Stainless Steel Polished Tips welded on...here's a pic of mine...

System is made by Borla for Steeda has slash cut tips instead of square intercooled tips like the standard Borla. Cost is about $450 plus shipping.

Question steeda exhaust

Jim, how good does the exhaust sound on your truck?? is it loud in the cab while crusing down the highway??

I think it sounds great! Not too loud on the freeway, nice deep rumble when I get on it. I sometimes pop it out of overdrive when cruising on the freeway to hear it growl. It was super quiet in my opinion when I first had it installed, now that it is broken in I love it.

Here is a pic of my setup. It is a flowmaster 50 with stainless steel tips. It's real close to the way Jim's looks.


Here is a pic of what the bends look like, They need to be cleaned up a little bit.

I went from a Flowmaster SI/DO rear to this and noticed no real change. There was a major improvement going to the Flowmaster from stock.

Question Discolored wheels?

Have any of you all had a problem with discolored wheels or bad looking paint with your exhaust where it is? I was thinking of putting my tips in front of the right rear wheel, but I'm afraid it will make my wheels dull looking.

No discolor here. I have seen a few trucks with some major discorloration(all with stock exhaust), but mine hasn't. I think it was mainly in cooler climates. I due keep my wheels really clean, and wash the truck wance a week, so it stays really clean.

I personally haven't had an discoloration of paint, rims or tires from mine. Actually, I was a bit worried the heat from the tips would either burn or discolor my ground effects kit.

i have a 97 with a 4.2 and the stock exhaust...i have a terrible case of corrosion and miscoloring on the center cap on the wheel behind the exhaust...i guess i should replace the exhaust system and have it moved..

I have the same setup as Lew B and I havent had any problems with the pipe being in front of the wheel... but i also live in sunny California! (weather has been great for the last week or so)
