Question Cold start Cat. conv. clicks?

Just fishing for a solution:

On the first cold start of the day (below 35F or so air temp) I get a series of two or three quick clicks from the firewall area. Fairly consistent sounds, has not gotten any worse since it started showing up back in December. At first I thought it might be relays or some such thing, but now think maybe it is something in the exhaust? Would a 5 year old catalytic converter start failing this way?

Thanks,

Cat

Have you considered that it might be the starter bendix sticking-mine did and it made a click-click-clik noise right after starting the vehicle. took it out and shot it with some oil and it quit.

That's probably a decent investment of time, I'll try it, thanks!

Clicking from firewall

My truck has been doing the same thing since the weather has gotten colder. Especially this morning. It sets in the garage every night, but I had to make a run early this morning and when I came out to start the truck it makes about 6-8 clicks after it's started.

I don't think this could be the Bendix since the truck is already started.

I think you may be on to something with the converters. Have you had any luck with fixing the problem?

Thanks,

Tom

I would tend to agree that it is not the Bendix if it is doing after the truck is running, but mine was doing that at startup right after the truck started.
I have heard the (exhaust?) click before as well, I just never thought it was a big deal-I will be interested to see what you discover.

Well I am going to drop the starter today, so we shall see. But given the warm temperatures forcast it might be next year before we find anything out. Hell, I might upgrade the truck by then. I'll keep you all posted.
