Borla V6

Howdy all,

Searched for two hours and couldn't find anything so I've got two important questions and i'll make them short and concise:

1. Can I get the Borla sound from a V6 by just buying a Borla muffler?

2. I found some cheap huge jumpo tips, not ****, tips. 4x18 or 4x24. I know that big tips give a better sound, but is this overkill?

I have a 4.2 v6 and i know i'll never get that v8 sound so i've decided to make is a bit snarly (is that even a word?). I am going get my exhaust done shortly here, gonna order the parts tonight if i get a few positive replies.

Thanks

Paco

Paco,

Back when I was researching the borla system for my truck, I found they had a cat-back system for the 4.2 V6. I was all ready to purchase the system for my truck when I started to get bad reviews of the product from muffler shops around town (I was trying to get them to install it for me). Even though Borla had said it would fit my 98', I found that to be false information. It would only fit the 97' truck, without modifing my hangers and so on to fit my application. After some conversations with Borla, and their seemingly dishonest information, I decided against purchasing anything Borla.
Now I'm not sure if they sell a muffler seperate, and you can just put that on your truck, but I'd be careful before making the purchase.

Yeah truck performance sells the turbo muffler for a bit over 100. I just want to buy the muffler and do a single in single out, 2.5 pipe in and 2.5 out to the front of the passenger wheel. Do you think the muffler will sound good with a nice tipe?

changing out the muffler is what I did on my application, I wanted a little more rumble and decided to go with the Ravin muffler. I was told that the borla muffler isn't very loud at all, so if you want quiet it would probably do just fine. I didn't want loud or quiet, and got what I wanted with the Ravin. As well as the muffler I added a nice tip and the sound is great. Good luck with your decision.
