Normal or side exit?
Is there any up or downside to running the exhaust out in front of the rear tires? I ordered a new Magnaflow muffler and I'm debating on using the stock exhaust pipe that goes over the axle or just getting a piece of pipe bent to take it out in front of the rear wheel. Is there any more or less power? Will it make the side of the truck dirty? Any sound difference?

Only thing I can think of...
would be exit point for exhaust would be closer to passenger compartment, so potentially noise would be higher...
but, some WANT louder, some wont...
I did the out the back exit point on mine....and am happy with it...

I agree with Mosa. My '97 model is out the side from the factory. With a flowmaster muffler and new tips, it is a little noisey, but to answer your other questions, I don't have any problems with the truck being nasty right there. It being a black truck, i have problems enough keeping it clean. MEEK
This depends on weather you have steel wheels or Alm. wheels. Plus ,yes the noise will be louder in front of fender. The real problem are the wheels if you put it in front you may get pitted rims if they are Alm. And a green center cap too. This is why Ford changed the placement of the exhaust tail pipe. I know this because Ford had to replace all my Alm. wheels plus one center cap which the chrome was peeling. The wheels all pitted really bad from tire rotation being in the heat of the exhaust all the time. I to have MagnaFlow with duals. Muffler # 12368 single in/ duals out. Like I sais this all depends on yout own taste, after all it your truck. I hope this helps!!!!!!!

Well, since I really like the 17" 10 hole aluminum wheels it came with I'll run the exhaust out the stock location. I'll be running a 27" body magnaflow, so it should be quiet. The only reason I'm changing the muffler is for less restriction.
