2006 F-150 5.4 whining/whistling

Hello so I need some help I have a 2006 F-150 with the 5.4 triton and I put a K&N 57 series cold air intake on it and now it whines or whistles loud enough to hear it clearly in the cab it sounds like it’s coming from the throttle body but there are no vacuum leaks it only does it until about 1500 RPM’s then stops and sounds normal do I need to get a bigger throttle body or does anyone know what is making the noise and how I can fix it

Put the stock intake back on it. Aftermarket intakes on the 5.4 3 valve need a custom tune in order not to run lean. All that intake does for you is make more noise and it actually is giving you warmer air than the stock.

I watch a lot of mechanic videos and I've never seen one where the mechanic had anything good to say about a K&N "cold air" filter system.

fair enough How do I know it’s running lean it’s not bogging at all it’s got a lot more power the only problem is it’s whining/whistling other then that it runs and drives fine the person prior to me owning it did some aftermarket stuff not sure on what but I don’t think it’s running lean how do I tell if it is

You won't know till you start burning up spark plugs.

Hook up a device that will read the fuel trims at idle and while running and that should tell you. I have a device that was given to me that reads fuel trim and the retail cost was only about $30 as I remember. If you are interested, I will take a look at it and post the brand and model.

I have also gotten negative feedback from a trusted mechanic about K&N intake filters. That oil has to go somewhere, usually some of it winds up on the mass air flow sensor. I still run the K&N filter on an 03 super crew 4.6.
IMO there's nothing inherently "wrong" with my setup. It's slightly cheaper to service the air filter but down the line I could see PCV lines drying out faster, the egr ports clogged again, and have to replace some sensors in the intake. It's a wash, really. The power bump is trivial.

Also, Forscan Lite can read fuel trims with a Bluetooth to OBD2 adapter. I run BAFX OBD 2 adapters in all three F-150's. They seem to lack MS CAN access but it's not needed for fuel trims. It can read them on the custom PIDs used in certain models like my 98 Explorer Sport 4.0. No parts store code reader could do that.
the BAFX adapter should run about $30 on eBay.
