Gas Smell

Hi,

First, I did a search and really can't find anything helpful.

I have a 2003 F150 4.6 2wd standard cab w/200k miles and have this (raw) gas smell coming from the fender/door area of the truck. Nothing leaking, can't see anything under the truck or under the hood. Gas mileage is still good.

Any ideas where I can look?

Thanks

My 2007 does this occasionally. I found it's when the fuel is either too warm or too cold, and it's the opposite temperature outside.

Like if I fill the truck up with cold fuel, it expands when it gets warm, and you can smell it.

Could be many things. Could be coming from your intake or exhaust. Is this before starting the car? Like do you smell this after leaving it for a few hours or overnight or what? You may have a leak in one of the lines too which could be dangerous.

Only have the smell when its hot out and the engine is warmed up.

I have a feeling it's expansion of the fuel. It's cold in the ground and then you bring it to the surface and load it in your truck. There is only so much the vapor canister can hold.
