im running straight pipes with turn downs. first i just had the pipes straight out the back, then I cut them right around the rear axle and put dumps on them. the exhaust was around the same loudness, but the turn downs made the sound much deeper. hope this helps!

Donate54,
What is a dump? I have never heard of that. Did you end your exhaust past the rear axle or before? Thanks for the help

BlckF150Lariat,

"Dumping" your exhaust is mandrel bending your pipes down toward the concrete and chopping them off right after the turn down. This supposedly echoes the exhaust off the ground and gives a deeper, louder sound. I thought about doing it, but had a 4" tip at the time and didn't want to waste. Wish I had answers from experience for you.

I did it...

...and it turned out great. I hacked off the stock muffler, put on a 50 Series Flowmaster (2.5" SI/SO) and a piece of 45 degree mandrel-bent pipe as a turn-down. It's not too loud, neither wife nor daughter complained about it. And, I gained torque/HP at all RPMs and now get about 1 MPG more. I'm happy, I'd do the same again!

I have the flowmaster 50 out the side, does the dump stir up the dust when you get on it, I live in OK, so the roads get dirty in the summer without rain. our diesel would stir up the dust, just wondering in the 4.6 would

I don't see why not. Check for yourself. In idle, you should feel a slight breeze. Get someone to give it gas while your hand near the exhaust after a goose. You should feel a good wind.

I just happened to be on a dirt road this last Tuesday. I saw some dirt blowing behind me, but I think it was just kicked up from the tires.
