-Straight Pipes-?
-Y pipe with a glasspack-?
what do you think? any suggestions?what about a custom exhaust? what do you think? I am only 17 so i dont know jack about exhaust systems..
I know i want it to be pretty loud..have a nice rumble at idle..and be able ot hear it when driving...I want it to sound good..and have some popping

Tuesday i went and had some pipes put on my truck, when i got home i noticed there was no muffler, just a y pipe with dual outlets.it's not the y pipe that came on the truck, just one to make the single exhaust into dual.the next day my mom made me take it back and have a muffler put on(i'm also 17,the truck is in her name so i really had no choice in the matter)the put a glass pack on and it sounds good now.but the straight pipe was alot louder and it backfired(popped) a little when i let off the throttle.mine is a 5.4 v-8 though, but i'm sure it would work on your truck.i've heard that the factory y pipe is very restrictive,so a aftermarket would be good too
go to your local exhaut shop and tell them what you want, then ask them to give u a quote. you could prolly get glasspacks to get the sound youre looking for. as far as loosing backpressure on a V6, you would have to ask someone who has tried it to be sure. good luck!

On the V6, I'd leave the stock "Y" alone, and add a single Flowmaster 40, single in / dual out, and go out the back with 3 1/2" x 26" tips. If you want a racier sound, go with single out and dump it before the axle. This will also save a lot of dough. You could have a bad@ss sounding V6 for $125 this way. I had the first option on my 99' V6 and everyone thought it was an 8. Honestly. Sounds really nice, especially with those big tips.

i dont want it to be like a sports car.. what if I put cannons on instead of regular tips? also what happens if i put a glasspack before the flowmaster????I always heard flowmasters sound like crap on a v6, r u being honest??????

What i did
This is what my local shop did to my V6 from where the old muffler was back was cut out and they installed a 18 inch Glasspack then Y it out after the glasspack into 2.25 duals and put 12 inch tips on it. Sounds great at a idle very deep, but when reveved up you can tell its a V6. As you stated you wanted it to pop off a bit, well this set up will believe me between every shift it will pop and crackle. If you shift at lower RPM's it doesnt do it. I didnt really like it at first but after hearing a couple of other trucks with V6's with other types of exhausts mine sounds better.
The shop at first just wanted to dual it out with a Y pipe and no muffler but I decided to install the Glasspack on it to quiet it down a bit but if you want it loud then go with no muffler and duals. I would not go with much bigger than 2.25 inch pipe if you plan on putting duals on it because you will lose some back pressure and lowend torque.
