Exhaust system (Again)
Exhaust system (Again)
I'm new here but read some posts. I'm thinking of going to a dual straight piped exhaust and was looking for insight on doing myself. Before I get started in wondering approx. How much pipe I should buy and if 2 inch is large enough to put on. Any comments or $ .02 appreciated, even if negative lol.
2.25 piping is what you'll want. Have to get it custom bent to fit your truck or just buy a kit. If you don't have a welder, clamps are going to be your best friend. You're gonna want a hot hack saw or powered, to get the factory muffler and tailpipe off.
I was just wondering how much pipe I need so I can grab it beforehand, a buddy of mine is going to do it. And is 2 inch too small or is 2 1/4 about right size. I know mine is 2 1/2 stock so I wanted a little smaller to improve the sound a little bit.
Amount wise, couldn't tell you. Just measure from the front of the muffler back, accounting for bends and giving yourself a little extra to work with. 2 1/4 is pretty much on point. You don't want to go too small and build up too much back pressure.
I was hoping someone had tried it and could give some insight but I'm only paying for the pipe, labor is free. 2 1/4 should work, give it a little higher tone but not too much. Thanks for the help.

Doing some simple math shows that one 2 1/2" diameter pipe has a cross sectional area of 4.9 sq in. Two 2" diameter pipes have a combined cross sectional area of 6.28 sq in.
That said I'd probably still put 2.25" diameter pipes on it too.
