catalytic converter heat shield noise

My truck has been making this noise since it was new. The dealer said there was nothing they can do, and living in CA, I'm stuck. It only makes the noise around 25mph. Any fixes besides not going 25?

Just rip the heat shield off. You don't need it for anything, and will not affect your cats in any way.

Unless you park your truck over something flammable like dry grass and then it could start a fire. It happened many times when cats were first used, starting in 1976. Manufacturers don't add parts that aren't needed!

OP we just had a thread on this about two weeks ago.

Use worm drive band clamps around the heat shields. Do NOT remove the heat shields.

Hi sbhFORDfan,

When you were at the dealer, did you take your tech on a test drive so you could replicate the noise you're hearing? How many miles are on your truck? I'll look into some ways to assist.

Thanks Crystal & Everyone. The dealer is the one who told me what the noise was from. It has 68k miles and extended warranty expires 8/1. The noise isn't constant at 25mph. It comes and goes depending on coasting or not.

Thanks for the fast reply, sbhFORDfan. I'll get the noise escalated to your regional customer service manager; they'll look into this a bit further and see what they can do to help. To make that happen, PM me your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership.

Crystal
