newbie exhaust questions

Hi everyone,

I'm buying my first truck tomorrow. Very excited! Its a 2006 STX. I would like to do something to make it sound a little meaner though. I am new to mechanical work but by no means inept when it comes to working with tools. I'm ideally looking for something that will give my vehicle a nice lower and beefy tone. I've been eyeing flowmaster's super 44 series muffler as it seems like its something I can switch in myself, and relatively cheap (~80$). Does anyone have experience with this muffler? Or other suggestions? Any input appreciated.

I cut out the old monster, and welded in a flowmaster 50. Had to weld in hangers and extra pc of pipe to everything strong for off road. Sounds great outside about not noisy inside. Sounds great w/ windows down. Lifetime warranty on it because stainless.

I've heard the super 44 series muffler and like that one a lot, but I'll consider the 50 as well. Is installation particularly difficult? It seems pretty straight forward, the only thing I cannot do is weld, there are other ways to install it, right?

Yes, you can use clamps, but it should really be welded. I'd recommend you get quotes from exhaust shops to do it.

agree w/ glc, get it welded w/ the hangers or it will break. Muffler shops will install your muffler, just call and ask for a price. (Meineke shop). If doing it your self, than buy a muffler/pipe kit with pipes, clamps, hangers, etc... for about $400
Cheaper to just get a muffler installed.

getting it welded for sure

Found a place that quoted me around 60$ for the weld. Clearly worth it.
