Side Exit Exhaust

1999 F-150, extended cab, 4.6

Once I have my passengers manifold fixed, I'm plannning on replacing my nearly rusted off exhaust.

Currently is a single in, single out, stock style setup, with the rear cats gone.

I was looking at the Gibson Super truck Exhaust, but they want way too much damn money for something so simple. and the tips look like ****.

I am planning on using a Borla or Magnaflow muffler, single in and single out, with a short pipe that has the exhaust exit right behind the running board on the passengers side. The question is this.... with the short pipe after the muffler and no rear cats, which muffler would YOU choose? and as far as case length and such, which model would you choose?

I was looking at those, but I'd rather have the pipe/pipes exit on the passenger's side either right after the step bar, or right under the box, before the rear tire. Like this one:

I just think Gibson wants a ton of money for that system, considering how easy it would be to fab something up.

I'm in the same boat. Cut my rusted off system off right behind the cats. It sounds great right now, just going to have my buddy fab me up some pipes exiting in front of the rear wheel. I have a 5.4, with the stock 4 cat setup.

That looks NICE.

I've decided to go with a Flowmaster Super 44. Instead of an oval or round tip, I'm going with a rectangular style tip, sort of like they used on the mid 90's camaros. It should work out pretty good. Monday the truck goes in to get the manifold replaced.

So after i looked under the truck, i found out that the actual tail pipe was newer than the muffler. I just cut out the muffler, and straight piped it to the tailpipe. I'm very surprised at how quiet it still is, but at least it sounds better. Those cats are pretty restrictive.
