4.6 Dual Exhaust or Muffler

I have a 08 4.6 4x4 and I want a little sound from the exhaust. I was looking at a Dynomax dual rear outlet exhaust system from Summit. Two problems with this, the exhaust will be hitting me in the face when I hook up my trailer and more money then I want to spend for a little sound.

How much would the Summit system help performance wise or should I just get a Flowmaster muffler and weld in place of the stock muffler?
Thanks

^^^ Performance? Bupkis. That goes for any system/muffler you choose to install, save for a properly-sized, holistic LT-to chamberless muffler replacement system in 2.25" mandrel-bent sizing, which will be a LOT more than yer likely willing to spend. Don't drink that koolaid.

4.6 2v's have a dearth of low-end grunt to begin with - a Farmaster will just make it worse. Go with a small straight-through from Maggie, Borla, etc - at least you will be preserving what you have. Avoid duals, except for that $$$ system mentioned above.

Lastly - if sound is ALL you care about, go with whatever sounds good to you.

If you want duals, run the tailpipes out the side in the stock location behind the rear wheels - either both out the right side or one out each side.

I would perfer that style, but that's a custom system which equals $$$. Out the rear is a boxed system.

Thanks

Custom systems don't cost that much - my local (independent, not chain) muffler shop put a SI/DO Gator glasspack on mine with lifetime warranty and dual 2.25" tailpipes with 1 year warranty out behind the rear wheels for $228, parts AND labor. You are going to pay at least that much for any decent catback in a box and they can be a real pain to fit yourself.

i have the 18" magnaflow muffler and then welded my exhaust to look stock and it sounds great. perfect amount of rumble at idle and acceleration. It would sound just as good if not alittle better if it were dumped so dumping it with a new muffler is an inexpensive option also

Dumping will drone in the cab and also cause exhaust gases to get into the cab. Ask me how I know - one of my tailpipes broke at the muffler a couple weeks ago.
