Ordered muffler now I'm stuck

Ok I ordered my magnaflow 18" muffler today and I've called around to see if shops will weld it on for me. I'm going from a 27" stock muffler to the 18" so I'd need about 8" of pipe from the shop. Every shop I've talked to wants to charge me 200 and up? That sounds alittle high just for pipe. So can I use my old pipe and just put a new tip on it afterwards?

Local shops back in MD charged about $50 to do that...

But now I'm in TX and you have me concerned since I'm looking to do the same now and $200 is way over priced.

Depending what size your old pipe is you could cut a section out and use it. Not sure about your local automate there but the ones around here you can buy pipe in one foot sections for a few dollars so that could be another option for you. As for price sounds like they're charging you for both the full hour of labor and probably the full length of the pipe they're going to take that 8" section out of.

Yeah it's crazy how much they want to charge for not even a foot of pipe. But if I do go to autozone or another plave would I get the 2.5" pipe for the outlet? And could I take it to the shop and basically just provide the parts and them weld it for cheaper?

$130 installed for magnaflow-quality muffler and 8" or so of piping welded in to bridge the gap. You're looking in the wrong places bro.

Most shops if you brought the pipe and the muffler in my area would charge around 50 to weld it up.

Autozone sells it you may have to hit a second one though if they don't have the right size in stock.

But as a cost reference, on my old truck I had a shop do a MagnaFlow muffler (not one of the similar style knockoff brands) and run the pipe out behind each well and it only cost me 330 for parts and labor.

Spring, there's a place by my high school that I'm going to ask when I get out. Hopefully they will work with me if I bring in the supplies. If I ordered the 2.5 in and out I should get 2.5 pipe right? That would be logical I'm guessing.

Haha howdy there neighbor. You know any shops that will do a muffler swap if I provide muffler for a price that won't break my bank?

Yes, get 2.5". And yeah, $200 is high. Places in Richmond/Rosenburg do it for way less. Spring is kinda like parts of Sugar Land in that the area is nice. Try some shops in lower income areas.
